Why Dave Moffatt loves to come back to the Philippines

May 25, 2017

“I’ve always felt this way; whenever I come here, I feel the warmth of the embrace of the Filipino people –[and it shows me the] loyalty that they’ve had for the past 16 years.”

Dave Moffatt, one of the members of the now-defunct Canadian boy band The Moffatts, shared these equally warm words before his fans who came in droves to Eastwood Central Plaza last May 15 to watch his Roadshow guesting live.

After his brothers conquered Manila for a farewell tour earlier this year, Dave also visited the country to make up for his absence in the said show. This coming Saturday, May 27, he will stage an intimate gig at the Music Museum.

Besides bringing his own spins to their group’s biggest hits such as “I’ll Be There For You” and “Miss You Like Crazy” (plus, a bonus cover of song which he wished he released, “When You Say Nothing At All), the four-time Manila visitor also eagerly revealed more of his thoughts about his Filipino listeners and what can they expect on his concert.

How does it feel now that you’ve come back to the Philippines after 16 years?

There’s a warm embrace from the Filipino people that I just enjoy in every minute of being here. They could’ve had totally forgotten about us but they didn’t, and that’s amazing. [Filipinos] still have that music in their hearts — it means the world to me.

I wish that I could be here longer. I’m gonna find more excuses just to come back and show my thanks in whatever way I can.

Apart from holding a concert, you’re also doing yoga classes as part of your tour. How did you get into that career?

I definitely love music. Music — my singing, my writing– will always be a part of my soul. But sometimes, you know, you need a little bit of something to calm down those thorns within your mind. I’m really trying to step outside of my comfort zone and just do something fresh and something new. I’ve been teaching for around seven years now and it’s been a really great journey for me.

Do you have any plan to release new materials? Or perhaps a reunion featuring all of The Moffatts?

I’m waiting, because I really want to put [my new music] down. As for a reunion…well, my brothers Bob and Clint are doing country and then Scott has some sort of indie rock thing and I’m pop (I have a pop voice but I also like EDM)…we all have different paths when it comes to our music. But I think, when we do a comeback, or an “actual” reunion tour, it’ll be a different perspective of what we are as an act because there will be some sort of an appreciation for what we have to offer individually. I think, it will be very special for us.

What can your supporters expect this coming Saturday on your show?

It’s just an intimate night with Dave Moffatt. I’ll be singing a different take on Moffatts songs. I’ll also perform songs that I’ve never sang before. There will be special guests and we’ll be doing some duets. I’ll also do some original songs. I want people to be surprised, so it will be a totally different show — but I’m ready to do it, I’m excited to be able to do it.

Dave Moffatt’s upcoming concert is presented by Prime Vera Event Management.
