Aug 17, 2016

If you are craving for some acoustic treat, a new musical duo in town is making waves to satisfy your auditory appetite.

The team-up of Migz and Maya is one the latest acts to have signed with hit-making label, Star Music.

Coming from different music backgrounds, the duo is all-set to release their debut album on Spotify this August 19, and in major record bars nationwide on the 26th.

Before their newest project comes out, R&B royalty and guest celebrity jock Kris Lawrence sat with them for an interview during their Roadshow guesting on August 16, Thursday.

How would you describe your music?

Maya: It’s kind of different and a little bit ironic, actually, because we’ve come from totally different backgrounds. I am more on pop, I sing and dance and he is more of alternative, more on singing acoustic and songwriting. With our music, you’ll hear a merging of two different artists.

How does your music differ from others?

Maya: We make sure that with every song that we do or perform, with add our own flavor — ‘Migz and Maya’ flavor.

Who are your biggest musical influences?

Migz: John Mayer, Eric Clapton, Bamboo

Maya: Mariah Carey , Whitney Houston, Regine Velasquez

How did you become a duo?

Maya: We met through our management, PPL Entertainment (their talent manager, Perry Lansigan, also handles Dingdong Dantes, Jolina Magdangal, and Geoff and Gabby Eigennman)

Migz: We came there at the same time. Actually both of us were supposed to be launched as solo artists, but they decided to try combining our music.

How does it feel like now that you are part of Star Music?

Migz: We really did not expect that Star Music would really get us. Things happened swiftly. But we are happy. We are very grateful.

What’s your favorite song from your upcoming album?

Migz: Our album is more on covers and originals, 17 tracks. My favorite is a composition I made entitled, “Lihim.”

Maya: Our own take on Session Road’s “Suntok sa Buwan.” We made it even more emotional for the album.

On board the Wish 107.5 Bus, the duo delivered a preview of their music and sang their single “Hibang,” and a cover of Charlie Puth’s “Marvin Gaye.”

Maya was first introduced into the music scene back in 2002 after competing in “Star for a Night.” She was also a contender in the singing contest, “Pinoy Idol.” Her career further blossomed when she joined the US-based girl group, Blush.

On the other hand, singer-songwriter Migz has been making rounds online with the viral covers uploaded on his YouTube channel. He also tried to win a ticket to the local industry when he joined the talent search program, “Talentadong Pinoy” in 2006.
