Sue Ramirez Proved to be ‘Rock Chic’ in First Solo Concert

Jul 22, 2019

Back in mid-2016, Sue Ramirez — together with frequent collaborator Kristel Fulgar — made the rounds online with her pop-song covers, turning the spotlight from her acting skills to her singing chops.

Officially venturing into the music industry, she then released her debut single titled “Ako Sa’yo” in December of the same year. Months later, she would co-headline a concert alongside Fulgar and two more rising young stars in the scene: Maris Racal and Loisa Andalio.

However, her entering the music scene has actually been long overdue. In case you don’t know about this — she originally auditioned as a singer (not an actress) for her current talent management company, Star Magic. In fact, according to her, singing is her childhood dream.

While Ramirez’s desire to launch an EP or an album is yet to be granted, she added yet another item on her musical profile — a major solo concert at the Music Museum. The show, fittingly billed “Sue Ramirez is Rock Chic,” was held on July 19, Friday.

Rock Chic Attitude

A quick glance at Ramirez’s Instagram page or at the celebrity vlogs where she’s featured in will somehow give you an idea of how carefree her personality is. Sassy and unapologetic, this 22-year-old gal is unafraid to show what she loves to do; one of which is her passion for singing.

On her show, she entwined her charmingly unabashed personality with her sweet-sounding voice to present a repertoire to her fans’ delight.

“Being rock chic doesn’t necessarily mean that I’m going to sing rock songs. It’s more of the personality and the attack in the costumes I will be wearing. Many of my friends actually call me a ‘rock star’ because of how I am and who I am as a person,” she shared in a radio interview last July 12.

Her anticipated solo concert also reunited Ramirez with Fulgar and Racal. Completing her list of special guests was R&B heartthrob Michael Pangilinan.

In “Rock Chic,” Ramirez performed a medley of Avril Lavigne’s “Wish You Were Here,” “Complicated,” and “Sk8r Boi” for the jam-packed Music Museum crowd. Also included in her setlist for the night are Rihanna’s “Love The Way You Lie” and “Rude Boy.”

In an emotional moment, Ramirez paused to share that she cried while singing “Wish You Were Here.” “As you all know, I lost my dad three years back, and I really wish he was here,” she bared.

“From the bottom of my heart, my hypothalamus, thank you, everyone. I love you guys,” remarked Sue. This was met by a resounding “I love you, Sue,” from her supporters.

Must-Watch Wishclusives

Her fans can relive Ramirez’s rock chic persona and admirable voice in her Wishclusives on the Wish 107.5 YouTube Channel. Combined, these performances have already racked up 57 million views.

In Ramirez’s rendition of “While We Are Young,” the versatile artist shows off her promising pipes and youthful glow to finely match the electro-folk pop tune’s feel-good vibes. An original from indie stars Keiko Necesario and Quest, the song is an ode to taking chances, rising above frustrations, and chasing after one’s biggest dreams.

She also offers diversity and goes mellow with her takes on Ben&Ben’s “Kathang Isip” and Alamid’s “Your Love,” which earned her Wishclusive Elite Circle awards during the 3rd Wish 107.5 Music Awards. Her revival of the said song was also pivotal in her singing career as she recorded it as a soundtrack for the 2016 TV drama series she was a part of, “Dolce Amore.”

Ramirez also has her Wishclusive performance of her debut track “Ako Sa’Yo.” Sure to melt hearts, the soft and stripped-down rendition is a showcase of her sincere, sweet vocal stylings.
