Two Decades In The Sun: Westlife is Coming Back to Manila with ‘The Twenty Tour’

Apr 30, 2019

Westlife, the iconic Irish pop vocal band that made us all swoon and fall in love with one memorable pop track after another, is coming back to Manila to lay their love — and their brand of feel-good tunes — to Filipinos.

The group will make their comeback on July 29 and 30, 2019 at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum for their “The Twenty Tour,” a celebration of their twentieth year in the industry.

On April 26, 2019, Westlife’s Kian Egan graced the Philippine airwaves via a live radio interview with DJ Jenie of The Wish List.

On their Wishclusive talk, the 38-year-old singer-songwriter expressed how thrilled he was to be coming back to Manila after such a long time.

“It’s an amazing time of the year. We’re so grateful and excited for a great show and fresh music, and also for a new album that’s coming up,” he shared via the on-air interview.

The tour, which is said to be their fastest-selling show with over 400,000 tickets sold in just two days, features their greatest hits and all of their 14 chart-topping songs in the UK.

Included in their much-anticipated setlist are “Swear It Again,” “Flying Without Wings,” “If I Let You Go,” “My Love,” “Uptown Girl,” “A World Of Our Own,” “Unbreakable,” “Mandy,” and “You Raised Me Up.”

Reunited

Egan recounted the days — the early days of Westlife, growing up together and sharing the same love for music. The group parted ways to pursue solo careers in 2012.

“It’s incredible that we’re able to do it again for the second time in this lifetime. With huge love and respect for each other, our relationship just got stronger,”  Egan shared.

As a treat to their fans, the multi-awarded collective pledges to offer fresh, new music, and a new album to boot, that would “make people want every song in it.”

On March 29, they debuted the second single off their eleventh studio album “Spectrum” under Virgin EMI Records — “Better Man.”

Believing that they’re better men than they were years ago, Westlife has grown to respect and appreciate the value of perfect timing; savoring each moment and not rushing things. Kian imparted that “the most important thing for a band is to take time.”

Manila, My Love

The vocal ensemble is excited to return to Philippine soil. “We’re blown away by the love that everybody has shown,” Kian shares. He reveals that the Philippines has a very special place in their hearts.

When asked about what song he’d like to dedicate to Filipino Westlife fans, he said, “I’d like to dedicate ‘My Love.’ We’re back to what we love to do and I’m so excited to see them all again.”

After two decades, Westlife and their wonderful music still resonate with all of us, bringing back happy memories and making all of us seem to fly without wings.
