WATCH: Morissette shows different side in ‘Throwback’

Sep 6, 2016

If you think you’ve seen all of Morissette’s musical chops in her previous videos, you might want to check out her WISHclusive performance of “Throwback,” an urban tune from her self-titled debut album. The song, originally recorded as a collaboration with KZ Tandingan, is a  clever blend of her amazing-as-usual pop sensibilities and surprisingly pleasing rapping skills.

“Throwback” carries a typical plot present in many love songs: the narrator longs for the primeval period  of her romantic relationship and asks if she and her partner “can go a little throwback” to when every little gesture born out of their young love used to ooze with sweetness.  Nonetheless, its modern feel accentuated by its lines’ satisfactory combination of the English and Filipino languages  — a surefire way to captivate a niche market of youngsters —  makes this effort a stand-out among its contemporaries.
