Nov 13, 2018

After months of traveling across the country to scout hidden musical gems, all systems are go for the premiere of the sophomore season of Wishcovery — the online singing competition produced by Wish 107.5.

The program is set to hit the FM station’s YouTube channel, with subscribers nearing the four million-mark, on November 26, Monday. It will be hosted by Kris Lawrence and will be aired daily at 9:30 p.m. (Philippine time).

Wishcoverees, Wishcoverers on Spotlight

Wishcovery Season 2, themed “The Singer and The Song,” will put the spotlight on seven camps composed of 12 contenders or Wishcoverees.

The member of the camps were hand-picked by formidable OPM songwriters namely Boy Christopher, Jungee Marcelo, Moy Ortiz, Noel Cabangon, Rannie Raymundo, Top Suzara, and Vehnee Saturno.

These composer-Wishcoverers are tasked to hone the singing aspirants as they undergo a series of sing-offs. Before the grand finals, each of them should select the Wishcoveree from their camp whose voice and artistry are befitting to interpret the song they intend to create for the show’s final battle.

“It’s actually giving the chance to our composers to look for a singer who will fit their composition or who will give the right justification to the songs they write, and at the same time, to discover singing talents as well,” Kuya Daniel Razon, the show’s creator and BMPI’s President and CEO, said in an interview.

According to him, the composers will play a huge role in selecting the season’s top contenders.

“Not all voices with great quality fit all kinds of song. The singer should sing a song that really suits his or her style, voice, and personality. This time, the composers are the ones who will pick the singer they want and they think are capable to bring out their talents as songwriters as well,” he added.

Meanwhile, BMPI Vice President for Marketing, Mr. Jay Eusebio, hinted that the audience “can expect phenomenal performances from the contestants and some really fierce coaching from the seven composers.”

While webisodes will be broadcasted on Wish’s main YouTube page, individual performances from the Wishcoverees will be accessed via its secondary channel.

Discovering Singing Gems

Wish 107.5 first launched Wishcovery in 2017 with the goal of discovering Filipino singing hopefuls who have the potential to make it big in the music scene.

Together with the Wishfuls, Kuya Daniel Razon — the creator of Wishcovery — receives the Gold and Platinum record awards for the quintet’s “Wishful Journey” album during the album launching concert held on June 19, 2018 at the Araneta Coliseum.

The show’s first season, which aired from September last year until March this year, produced five fast-emerging belters known as Wishfuls. Since winning Wishcovery Season 1, grand finalist Princess Sevillena, and runners-up Kimberly Baluzo, Louie Anne Culala, Carmela Ariola, and Ace Bartolome have already released a certified Platinum album titled “Wishful Journey” under Star Music.

As part of their prizes, the singers have inked a two-year recording contract with the said record label, and a five-year management deal with BMPI.

For Wishcovery Season 2, over 2 million peso-worth of cash prizes will be given to the grand finalists.

As a word of advice for this season’s contenders, Kuya Daniel said that “the most important thing of all is to recognize that Someone has given us whatever talent we have.”

“We should have a feeling of debt of gratitude to Him, and we should use what was given to us for a noble purpose.”
