Alfred, we were too young and innocent when we first confessed our love to each other. The acacia trees and the resting birds were our witnesses. The afternoon sky was painted purple and blue. We held hands and promised to give our all to prove that we can make it. But somewhere along the way, perhaps we both made a mistake. You fell in love with the metropolitan life as you spent your college years in Manila. Stories of you finding another love in the city spread in our town, and I was too devastated to ask for your side, your explanation.

Years passed by swiftly and we went on our own paths, not knowing that somewhere down the road, our lives will cross again. Perhaps, we were fated to meet once more and have that closure our hearts have long been waiting for, I thought. But it was more than that. It was as if we never parted, and each time we meet, my heart whispers that we could be in love again, we could patch things up and be a proof to the saying, “love is lovelier the second time around.”
