Mariah Deborah Talks Viral Hit ‘Na Para Bang’ and Making Music

Singer-songwriter Mariah Deborah is taking over social media with her viral hit, “Na Para Bang.” Released earlier this year, the song was inspired by a 2025 meme and the artist’s own experience of falling for a friend.

“Na Para Bang” is currently sitting atop Billboard Philippines’ Top Philippine Songs chart.

On September 29, the OPM act hailing from Pangasinan boarded the Wish Bus for the first time and delivered a live rendition of the hit track, alongside other originals “Bahagya” and “Hibang.”

In an interview with Wish 107.5, Deborah shared how she got into singing, songwriting, and producing. She also talked about the story behind “Na Para Bang” and what her fans’ support means to her.

You grew up in a musical household. Talk us through that upbringing.

My parents were both singers. They met through the orchestra. So at a very early age, na-expose na rin talaga kami ng ate ko sa mga kantahan. Lalo na sa family events, papakantahin ka talaga. Kahit ‘di ka marunong kumanta, basta bata ka — parang kailangan talaga naming kumanta. So, I think that’s one of the very reasons why I love to sing. But also, I just love music, I guess.

How about songwriting?

At a very young age, I loved Taylor Swift. I know na parang dati, singer lang siya, but for me, when I found out na she also writes her own songs, isa talaga siya sa naging inspiration ko to also write my own songs. And hanggang ngayon, nagra-write pa rin siya, and that also inspires me to, like, up my game and, you know, share narratives na hindi masyadong nabibigyang pansin.

True enough, the title of your debut album is “i wanna eat your intestines.” Share with us your vision.

“i wanna eat your intestines” is an album that I produced. There’s one track there; it’s track 5, called “carousel.” My friend Enzo Caday co-produced that song with me, but the rest — I produced all of that.

Parang pandemic noon, tapos wala akong magawa, and I was heartbroken. And I just wanted my music to be out there. Tapos ang naisip ko, “Why would I wait for someone to produce these songs for me? Bakit hindi ko na lang siya aralin nang mag-isa ko?” So, I did that. Stream “i wanna eat your intestines,” guys!

Talk to us about the song that put you on the map, “Na Para Bang.”

I wrote the song “Na Para Bang” last year because everyone was saying, “na para bang.” When you say it, it’s almost like percussion: na-para-bang. It just flows off your tongue. And at the same time, I started liking a friend, and I just wanted to write a song about it.

What can you say about your fans’ support for you? How do you feel seeing the foot traffic for your Wish Bus gig?

A lot of people are viewing my TikTok videos and commenting. But, you know, I’m in the province, so, parang, hindi ko ma-grasp ‘yung, like, intensity ng support ng mga tao, ‘cause it’s just all online. And so seeing everyone here right now, parang, totoo pala siya. It’s very overwhelming, but I’m also very grateful for everyone.
