Kape tayo.
In the country, these words are something you’d often hear from a loved one, or even a colleague. On the surface, it sounds like nothing but a simple invitation to enjoy coffee.
But sometimes, it’s a tad more profound than that.
Moonstar88’s newest song, “Kape Tayo,” is the band’s attempt to capture what it means to share a cup of coffee with people dear to you.

In a press release, the OPM hitmakers — Maysh Baay (vocals, guitars), Herbert Hernandez (guitars), and Bon Sundiang (drums) — said that the song was born from their own experiences of gathering over coffee, where conversations naturally flow and genuine connections are formed.
Musically, “Kape Tayo” is imbued with a laid-back, cozy atmosphere. It easily transports you to your favorite café, somewhere serene and unhurried. The song, produced by Rye Sarmiento of 6cyclemind, is made even more comforting by a lush string section arranged by Ria Osorio.
“We opened ourselves to collaborators. So, for this song, our main collaborator is Darwin Hernandez, who happens to be our manager and the songwriter of the classic ‘Torete,’ and a lot of other hit songs,” Maysh shared during the band’s Wish Bus stint on July 15.
“He wrote this song. And the premise of the song is really to celebrate [t]aking time to slow down and spending time with someone who’s important to you, or even just yourself,” she added.

To bring the experience closer to fans, the band has hit the road for the “Kape Tayo” Coffee Tour. A fitting event for the song, the tour is an intimate series of acoustic performances at cafés across Metro Manila and Antipolo. The tour culminates at the Manila Coffee Festival 2026 at SM Megamall on July 18.
