polaris. and Sweet N’ Salty Unveil New Songs About Unrequited Love and Letting Go

Longing for someone who may never be yours? Learning to let go of an old love?  

Fast-rising bands polaris. and Sweet N’ Salty have unveiled new songs that could soundtrack what you’re going through.

On unrequited love

Unrequited love is such a universal feeling that there’s no shortage of tracks to listen to for this bittersweet experience.

polaris., an alternative rock band based in Cabanatuan, Nueva Ecija, makes a strong case for adding one more to that mix.

Their new single “Isip” blends indie and alternative pop into a memorable piece about loving someone from afar. In this new track, the band reflects on that stubborn hope that one can’t seem to let go — despite the possibility (and reality) of getting rejected.

The band was first formed in 2020 and draws inspiration from several OPM heavyweights, including The Eraserheads, Rivermaya, and VST & Company.

On yearning and letting go

Yearning hits quite differently when heard in an OPM song penned in the vernacular. 

In Sweet N’ Salty’s newest offering, “Lila,” the band captures this longing in the lyrical centerpiece, “Ako’y nangungulila sa’yo.” The line cleverly incorporates the song’s title, which also happens to be the Filipino word for purple. In love and relationships, this color is often associated with lasting devotion.

“Lila” takes listeners on an emotional rollercoaster ride as they tell the story of someone who finally finds real love in another person — only for their relationship to face its demise.
