The Wish Bus Sojourns to Baguio, the Summer Capital of the Philippines
While most Filipinos head to Baguio, the “City of Pines,” for its unusually lower temperatures, the Wish Bus visited the famous summer destination for its cool mix of local musical acts for the April 11 edition of the Roadshow with DJ Alice.
After navigating almost 245 kilometers of urban roads and highways, the country’s FM-on-wheels finally reached the Melvin Jones grandstand, which is popularly referred to as the colder version of the UP Sunken Garden.
18-year-old singer Dharyl Robyn Carta kick-started the special one-day Baguio stop-over with a unique spin to Rihanna’s “Take A Bow” and a sweet take on Sitti’s “Para Sa Akin.”

Alternative rock band Hammurabi also had the chance to showcase their talent on the pambansang Wish Bus. The Baguio-city based band spread chill vibes as they played their original tracks “Tayo Na” and “Tom Cruz.” The band shared that their original “Tayo Na” was penned by their lead vocalist, who at the time, just started a relationship with his girlfriend and was struck with inspiration. During their Wish Bus stint, the group also announced that they will soon be releasing their EP.

Reggae upstart 168 Unplugged jumped aboard the Wish Bus and delivered their original song “Kasama Ka” and rendered their version of Davey Langit’s “Idjay.” “Kasama Ka” is a heartfelt track which speaks about an unfortunate love story wherein two lovers dreamt of their future, however, they became separated as they achieved their own hopes and dreams.

The Roadshow became even cooler as some known local artists from the City of Baguio also performed and showcased their different musical styles aboard the iconic Wish Bus. The roster of performers includes family ensemble The Packings, indie/folk/rock act Laura, Revised band, reggae troupe Yobag Tribe, and folk singer Bob Aliping.

Armed with his guitar, folk singer Bob Aliping serenaded our Baguio Wishers with his originally-penned inspirational tracks “Working Hard” and “Life.”
