For any music lover, concerts (or any live show, for that matter) offer a different experience than just consuming music through headphones or speakers. There’s just something magical about hearing a song performed live.
Now, what if that same live music is woven into a story unfolding right in front of you?
This is the very experience offered by Wish Date, produced by Wish 107.5 and KDR Music House. A concert series that began in 2022, it takes the live music experience to a higher notch by integrating it within a cinematic, immersive narrative — complete with both a short film and live-acting segments.
The series is set to return for its 20th edition, “Wish Date: Rewrite” on April 12 at the Mall of Asia Arena. And if you’re a huge fan of music, here are three reasons the upcoming Wish Date is a must-watch.
A roster of performers that transcends generations
Over the past years, Wish Date has proven its knack for bringing together artists from different eras.
Icons such as Rey Valera, Lani Misalucha, Martin Nievera, Ogie Alcasid, Jessa Zaragosa, and Dingdong Avanzado have all graced previous editions of the series, reintroducing several OPM classics to younger generations while letting older ones relive memories they associate with the songs.
At the same time, a wide range of OPM artists from more recent years have also debuted on the Wish Date stage. Some of the most notable names include Kyla, TJ Monterde, Kitchie Nadal, Maki, Silent Sanctuary, Gigi De Lana, The Itchyworms, Armi Millare, Dionela, Stell, and Cup of Joe.
“Wish Date: Rewrite,” the series’ latest installment, promises yet another exciting lineup, comprising Apo Hiking Society, Over October, and Aquila Packing. While veterans Jim Paredes and Boboy Garrovillo are expected to add a sense of legacy to the show, newer performers like Over October and Aquila Packing are set to bring in fresh style and storytelling through their own brands of artistry.
An all-OPM setlist
Wish Date has built a legacy around the concept of combining film, live acting, and live music into one immersive event. Reinforcing its commitment to showcasing OPM, its newest edition will put the spotlight on an all-Filipino-music repertoire.
The move to make an all-OPM setlist (a first for Wish Date) allows the storytelling aspect to feel more grounded.
As Filipinos, there’s a certain sense of belongingness and familiarity that comes with hearing songs in the vernacular — or songs that were penned by a fellow Filipino. The emotional depth of the tracks is further-reaching, whether they’re about love or heartbreak. So, when they’re used to elevate the story of the short film, the whole experience becomes even more memorable and relatable.

Live performances that highlight key emotional moments
One of Wish Date’s biggest strengths lies in how thoughtfully its program is put together.
As stated, it’s a blend of short film, live music, and live acting. And the seamless integration of the musical performances helps keep the audience fully engaged from the beginning until the end. The performances not only showcase the artistry of the musical guests but also their ability to highlight key emotional moments of the narrative. It’s as if the performances are there to give voice to what the characters in the film can’t fully express.
For this upcoming edition, audiences can expect that same emotional intensity, if not more. The short film, “Rewrite,” serves as a sequel to “Love Tales”, a Wish Date concert held in August last year. The film will bring back familiar faces such as Vivoree Esclito, Joao Constancia, Lienel Navidad, and Shaun Salvador, with special participation from Susan Africa.
