Wish 107.5 celebrated 12 years of championing music and stories with “Wish Date: Unchanging Glass.”

While the “Wish Date” concert series is already in its 21st edition, its latest installment highlighted not just its unique formula of blending film, live music, and live acting. It also coincided with the station’s 12th anniversary, which made the night even more special for the thousands of Wishers who packed the Araneta Coliseum on August 23.

Storytelling through film, music, and theater

“Wish Date,” the concert series being mounted by Wish 107.5 and KDR Music House, has set itself apart from other live events by combining three forms of storytelling: film, music, and theatre.

For the station’s 12th anniversary special, Wish 107.5 presented a short film titled “Unchanging Glass,” starring Zaijian Jaranilla, Yukii Takahashi, and Aljon Mendoza. Monina Lawrence, Sharmaine Suarez, and Chikki Magbutang are also part of the cast.

The story revolves around three people stuck in a place they can’t seem to move past, and the difficult choices they have to make to move forward with their lives. Amplifying the narrative is a well-curated setlist performed live by The Juans, dwta, Renz Verano, and Pops Fernandez, interspersed between the film and live-acting segments.

The Juans opened the night with “Hatid,” and returned throughout the show with more hits, including “Ako Na Lang,” “Ano Ba Talaga Tayo?,” “Ngiti,” and “Dulo.” A clear crowd-favorite, they also delivered their version of Rivermaya’s “Balisong.”

Pops Fernandez, the country’s Concert Queen herself, made a memorable Wish Date debut. She performed “One Hello,” “Points of View,” “Little Star,” “Just Say You Love Me,” "Dito,” and “Don't Say Goodbye.”

Renz Verano, another esteemed OPM icon, showcased his enduring vocals with “Remember Me,” “You and I,” and his renditions of “Lost Without Your Love,” “Kahit Isang Saglit,” and “Narda.”

Bicolana singer-songwriter dwta mesmerized the crowd as she performed “Padaba Taka,” “Ang Pagibig Kong Ito,” “Sampung Mga Daliri,” and “Pauwi Na 'Ko.” A highlight of the night, she also sang the film’s theme song titled “The Hourglass” (you can watch her Wish Bus performance of the same track here).

A love that hasn’t changed in 12 years

Wish 107.5 first went on air on August 10, 2014. On the same day, it introduced the game-changing Wish Bus, which brought music — and artists with countless stories to share — closer to people.

Over the years, the station has grown and introduced various endeavors, including the Wish Music Awards (WMAs) and Wish Date.

Charity is also at the core of Wish 107.5’s initiatives. For example, during the WMAs, winning artists get to donate Php100,000 to charitable organizations. In the station’s anniversary show last year, seven beneficiaries with medical conditions also received Php100,000 each.

Last Sunday’s “Wish Date: Unchanging Glass” is but proof that Wish 107.5’s journey is far from over. And 12 years in, that passion for music and storytelling remains unchanging.

This event is made possible with the help of the following partners: CSquare Telecom — “C-SQUARE Telecom, your latest gadget on hand. Para iwas scam, C-Square Telecom dapat!”; Globaltronics; Capitol Medical Center; and Akapela Coffee and Lounge — “Music, Coffee and You.”

This blog post has completely changed my perspective on music. It's a must-read for any music lover.
